The Fennecs went into the semi final confident that they will be able to repeat their World Cup qualifying heroics against the Pharaohs but suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat with Hosni Abd Rabou, Mohamed Zidan, Mohamed Abdelshafy and Mohamed Gedo all on target.
Algeria were also reduced to 8 players before the end of the final whistle with Rafik Halliche, Nadir Belhadj and Faouzi Chaouchi all receiving their marching orders. While Algeria put up a disappointing performance, coach Rabah Saadane deflected the blame on to the referee saying that his side’s hand was forced after they lost players due to some questionable decisions.
Meanwhile Nigeria coach Shaibu Amodu will be looking to lead his side to its fifth third place finish in the last six tournaments. The Super Eagles lost out to Ghana in the semi finals with Asamoah Gyan scoring the only goal of the match early in the first half.
