Angola recovered from a shock 4-4 draw against Malawi in the tournament opener to beat Malawi by a 2-0 margin in their second group game. Goals from Flavio and Manucho in the 48th and the 54th minute sealed the game for the hosts and brightened their chances of making it to the next stage.
Coach Manuel Jose will hope Dede and Gilberto have recovered from their knocks, but will give them late fitness tests before naming his final squad.
Meanwhile Algeria bounced back from a shock 3-0 loss to Malawi in their opening game to beat Mali by a 1-0 margin. Rafik Halliche's header late in the first half sealed the game for Algeria, who need to win this one if they are to progress in the African Nations Cup.
While the win keeps the Desert Foxes alive in the Cup, all is not well within the squad. It has also emerged that coach Rabah Saadane has had a bust up with midfielder Khaled Lemmouchia, who has been sent home for family reasons.
