Ghana started the tournament as one of the favorites to lift the trophy for the fifth time in its history but are now struggling for survival following a disappointing start. Following the cancelation of their opening match against Togo, Ghana were looking to get their campaign to a good start but goals from Gervinho, Siaka Chico Tiene and Didier Drogba saw the Black Stars suffer a heavy defeat to Ivory Coast in spite of having a numerical advantage for most of the second half.
The defeat means Ghana now need to win against Burkina Faso while a draw is enough for Les Etalons to progress to their first ever quarter finals in their history. Coach Paulo Duarte will be hoping to build on their good start to the tournament after holding Ivory Coast to a 0-0 draw.
Burkina put up an excellent defensive display to hold the much superior Ivory Coast attack at bay and Duarte will be confident that his side can repeat the performance on Tuesday.
