The Chipolopolo have failed to progress past the group stage since finishing third in the competition back in 1996 but with his side topping the group table, coach Herve Renard will be optimistic that Zambia has the ability to secure a positive result on Monday.
Zambia’s 2-1 win over Gabon in their final group match meant that the Chipolopolo had the superior head to head record compared to Cameroon and Gabon even though all the three teams finished level on four points.
Meanwhile Nigeria will be looking to go on another strong run in the competition after suffering a disappointing defeat in the quarter finals last time around. The Super Eagles had not failed to qualify for the semi finals since the turn of the century and with Nigeria presented with an easy semi final draw against Angola or Ghana, coach Shaibu Amodu will be hopeful that his side can maintain their good performance and qualify to the final for the first time in 10 years.
