The Pharaohs were dumped out of the race to qualify for this summer’s World Cup after losing 1-0 to Algeria in the tie-breaking playoff clash. Coach Hassan Shehata will now be looking to avenge that defeat by securing a comfortable victory over Algeria in their semi final clash.
With Ivory Coast and Cameroon both out of the competition, Egypt are clear favorites to lift the trophy for a third successive time. The Pharaohs booked their place in the semi final with a 3-1 extra time win over Cameroon with Ahmed Hassan scoring a brace.
Algeria on the other hand needed an injury time equalizer through Madjid Bougherra before Hameur Bouazza grabbed an extra time winner to secure a victory over Ivory Coast. Coach Rabah Saadane was delighted with his side’s performance in the quarter finals and is confident that they can repeat their performance against Egypt and book a place in the final for the first time since winning the competition back in 1990.
