Bilbao have been inconsistent this season. Joaquin Caparros’ side started off the season well, but then went through an eight game period where they picked up just one win. In their last league game, they beat struggling Racing Santander 2-0. Carlos Gurpegui and Andoni Iraola were on target for Bilbao against their local rivals. Most recently, they were dumped out of the Spanish Cup by Rayo Vallecano after drawing the home leg 2-2. Fernando Llorente and Javi Martinez netted for Los Leones in that game.
Barcelona lead La Liga by a point from Real Madrid. They beat Mallorca 4-2 in their last league game, and were also in action in the Copa Del Rey, where they thrashed Cultural Leonesa 5-0. Pedro and Lionel Messi scored in both games, with Thierry Henry, Bojan Krkic and Xavi the other contributors.
