Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur Live |
|
Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to avenge last year’s Carling Cup final defeat when they visit Manchester United in the quarter finals of the competition on Tuesday.
United had pipped Tottenham to the Carling Cup crown, winning 4-1 on penalties after both the sides had failed to break the deadlock in normal time. The Red Devils have already beaten Spurs this season, winning 3-1 at White Hart Lane back in September.
United started the defense of their title with a narrow 1-0 win over Wolves in the third round before securing a hard fought 2-0 win away to Barnsley. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson will try and rest some of his senior players although he will know that the club cannot take Spurs lightly especially as Jermaine Defoe is in thundering form.
Spurs on the other hand have had a much easier passage to the quarter finals, thrashing Preston 5-1 and following it up with a comfortable 2-0 win over Everton in the fourth round.
Dimitar Berbatov could start against his old club with the Bulgarian international looking for some match practice after recovering from a knee injury. Luka Modric is the only long term absentee for Spurs with the Croatian international out of action for some time due to a broken leg.
