Hull eased their relegation fears a fortnight ago by beating Stoke City 2-1 at home. Stoke took the lead through Matthew Etherington, but Hull found themselves back on level terms thanks to Seyi Olofinjana’s 62nd minute strike. Stoke were reduced to ten men when Abdoulaye Faye was given his marching orders, and Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink struck an injury time winner for the Tigers after Thomas Sorensen had failed to hold on to Jimmy Bullard’s shot.
West Ham are currently second from bottom in the table. Gianfranco Zola’s men were beaten 2-1 by Everton a fortnight ago. Louis Saha and Dan Gosling scored for Everton, with the Hammers’ goal also coming from an Everton player- Tony Hibbert. Striker Carlton Cole, who missed the Everton game with a hamstring problem, is likely to return to West Ham’s starting XI.
