Barca crushed Tenerife 5-0 in their last league game. Tenerife started the game well and forward Alejandro Alfaro came close to giving them the opener on two occasions. The crossbar denied him the first time, while Barca keeper Victor Valdes produced a good save to deny him on the other occasion. Eventually Barca broke the deadlock through Lionel Messi and from then on, the Catalans took complete control of the game. Messi grabbed a hat trick as Barca made their possession count.
Sevilla’s Champions League hopes suffered a blow when they were beaten 2-1 by Racing Santander last week. The result saw the club drop to fifth in the league, one point behind Deportivo. Romaric scored the only goal of the game for Manuel Jimenez’s side as they failed to provide a fitting reply to Sergio Canales’ first half brace for Santander.
