United were beaten 1-0 by league leaders Chelsea before the international break. The result saw Sir Alex Ferguson’s side surrender their second place to Arsenal, who have a healthier goal difference. Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic, who missed the Chelsea game with a calf problem, played for his country in an international friendly against South Korea, and could make an appearance against the Toffees this weekend.
Everton beat West Ham United 2-1 a fortnight ago to record their first league win since late September. Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha fired them ahead on 27 minutes, and Dan Gosling made it 2-0 shortly after the hour mark. Tony Hibbert’s own goal gave West Ham a ray of hope, but Everton held on to pick up three precious points at Upton Park. David Moyes’ men are currently ten points behind United in the league standings.
