At press time, the Red Devils are gearing up for their match at Hull but will be plenty ready -and a bit more healthy defensively? - to take on a Wigan team that is impossible to figure.
Roberto Martinez, who took over at Wigan after former Manchester United player Steve Bruce bolted north to Sunderland, looks for any semblance of decent away form. They have two wins away all season and have conceded 26 goals- --nine at Tottenham--- and rank 19th of the 20 Premier League sides in that regard. Only the newcomers Burnley (29) have conceded more.
For Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United side, it’s a chance to put even more pressure on a Chelsea side that has one win (against lowly Portsmouth) in their last seven matches in all competitions. At writing, the Red Devils were only 5 points behing Chelsea with their game in hand and may even close the gap, or even become league leaders, depending on how the Blues do against Fulham.
Ferguson will be hoping some of his defenders will be coming back into the mix as United have been forced to go with two midfielders---Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher---at the center of defence.
