Pompey rode on the back of a brace from striker John Utaka to upset Sunderland in the FA Cup on Saturday. Utaka scored on either side of the interval as Darren Bent’s 15th minute opener for Sunderland went in vain. Pompey will be without the quartet of Hassan Yebda, Nadir Belhadj, Kanu and Aruna Dindane as they are on international duty in the ongoing African Cup of Nations.
West Ham also secured a morale boosting stalemate against Champions League hopefuls Aston Villa on Saturday. The Hammers are above the relegation zone on goal difference, but a bad result on Tuesday could see them sucked into it. West Ham met Pompey at Upton Park last month, and won 2-0 thanks to goals from Alessandro Diamanti and Radoslav Kovac. Luis Boa Morte, Carlton Cole and Zavon Hines are all sidelined through injury.
