Madrid kept themselves in the hunt for the title by beating Real Zaragoza 2-1 on the road last weekend. Raul’s 50th minute strike, his last contribution in Real Madrid colours this season, broke the deadlock early in the second half. Zaragoza did well to equalise through Adrian Colunga, but playmaker Kaka came off the bench to net the winner for Real eight minutes from time. Joining Raul on the sidelines will be Dutchman Rafael van der Vaart, who damaged his thigh muscle against Zaragoza.
Osasuna inched closer to safety with a 0-0 stalemate against Athletic Bilbao last weekend. Osasuna are now five points clear of the relegation zone, but the result dealt a blow to Bilbao’s chances of playing Europa League football next season. Osasuna have lost eleven matches on the road this season- a statistic only bettered by relegation threatened Tenerife.
