Aberdeen drew 1-1 with Motherwell in their last game. Motherwell took the lead through Lukas Jutkiewicz, but Aberdeen equalised through midfielder Gary McDonald’s second half strike. Rangers manager Walter Smith played an unusual 3-4-3 formation against Stuttgart, but his gamble did not pay off as his side slumped to a third straight defeat at home in the Champions League. Sebastian Rudy and Zdravko Kuzmanovic scored for the Germans at Ibrox as Rangers were dumped out of Europe by Markus Babbel’s side. The loss, coupled with a win for Unirea over Sevilla, condemned Rangers to last position in their group, and also denied them a shot at the Europa League.
