The Gers were held to a 1-1 draw by Unirea Urziceni in the Champions League on Wednesday night. The result was certainly an improvement on the 4-1 drubbing that Unirea had given them on Match Day 3, but it still left the European hopes of Walter Smith’s side hanging in the balance.
Young Danny Wilson acquitted himself well in Romania, and the 17 year old is again set to partner David Weir in central defence this week after Madjid Bougherra failed to recover from his knee injury. Kyle Lafferty and Steven Smith will play no part in this game due to food poisoning, and the Gers will also have do without the injured trio of Pedro Mendes, Kirk Broadfoot and Maurice Edu.
St.Mirren are sixth in the table with twelve points from ten fixtures. They were upset 2-0 by Hamilton Academical last week. The result brought the Paisley oufit’s four match unbeaten run to an end. Marco Paixao and Martin Canning scored for Accies, while St.Mirren defender Lee Mair got his marching orders midway through the second half. Mair will therefore miss his side’s trip to Glasgow.
The Buddies will welcome midfielder Steven Thomson back from illness, but manager Gus MacPherson is still without the services of Allan Johnston, Steven Robb, Craig Dargo, Chris Smith, Tom Brighton and Mo Camara.
