The Black Cats were beaten 2-0 by Spurs a fortnight ago. Robbie Keane and Tom Huddlestone scored for Harry Redknapp’s side, but Sunderland were left ruing their missed chances at the end of the game. Darren Bent also had a penalty saved by Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes.
Skipper Lorik Cana returns from his one match ban. Kenwyne Jones is again suspended, and Michael Turner will join him after picking up his fifth yellow against Spurs.
Arsenal moved to second spot after they crushed Wolves 4-1 and Manchester United lost to Chelsea. Two own goals from Ronald Zubar and Joey Craddock put the Gunners 2-0 up at half time, and strikes from Andrei Arshavin and Cesc Fabregas on the other side of the break completed a comfortable victory.
Dutch forward Robin Van Persie and Danish international Nicklas Bendtner are injured, leaving Eduardo and Andrei Arshavin to shoulder most of the attacking burden. Also injured are left back Gael Clichy and midfielder Denilson.
