The Azzurri played out a goalless draw against the Netherlands on Saturday. The game produced few opportunities of note, but Giampaolo Pazzini had a late effort disallowed. Cagliari’s Davide Biondini made his debut for the national side against Holland, coming on as a second half substitute for Angelo Palembo. Italy coach Marcello Lippi is set to rotate his squad against the Swedes, with Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Pirlo and Gianluca Zambrotta not expected to feature.
This is Sweden’s first game under Erik Hamren. The 52 year old took charge of the national squad after Lars Lagerback handed in his papers following a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign. Hamren’s 24 member squad does not include Barcelona striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, easily Sweden’s most recognisable player. However the likes of Rasmus Elm, Marcus Berg, Markus Rosenberg, Kim Kallstrom and Johan Elmander are present.
Will Hamren enjoy a winning start to his reign as Sweden manager? Sign up today and watch Italy vs Sweden live.
