Neither the Dutch nor the Italians managed to score in Pescara. Sampdoria striker Giampaolo Pazzini did manage to bundle in a late goal, but it was disallowed by the officials for handball. Holland however lost Robin Van Persie to an injury early in the match, and the Arsenal forward is expected to be out of action for the next few months after tearing ligaments in his left ankle. Youngster Wout Brama was on the bench against the world champions, but did not make an appearance.
Paraguay slumped to a surprise defeat against Qatar on Friday night. Brazilian born Fabio Montesin scored both goals of the game for Qatar as La Albirroja were upset 2-0 by the 2011 Asian Cup hosts. It was a disappointing result for Paraguay, given that it came after their impressive South American qualifying campaign.
